    Gotland Wool Handwoven Blanket

    Gotland Wool Handwoven Blanket

A product of the Northern New England Fiber Shed

    Our Blanket’s Story

Each blanket begins with a shepherd and her Gotland sheep, grazing on the mountainside pastures at Grand View Farm in Vermont. She tends to them throughout the year, caring for their lambs and tending to their pastures. In the spring, they are sheared, and the shepherd carefully skirts the fiber, and ships it to a small family mill. The mill spins the wool according to her specifications for weaving. Each blanket is hand woven in Vermont on a floor loom, with special attention to every detail. Every inch of the blankets contain a piece of Grand View Farm, and the lives of those who care for the sheep.

    The Weaver

This elegant handwoven blanket is crafted by a local textile artist named Sydney Miller. We collaborated with Sydney to design the perfect farm to home Vermont heirloom blanket. Sydney selects weave patterns that showcase the lovely gray shades of our Gotland yarn, raised right here on our farm.

    Caring for Your Blanket

We suggest airing your blanket outside on a sunny day at least once a year. If soiled, wash and rinse with cold water, using a mild soap. Do not agitate while washing, but rather let it soak in the water. Line dry.

    Specifications

Characteristic of Gotland wool, these handwoven blankets have a weightiness, characteristic of Gotland wool. The wool has a lovely halo which traps the warmth to ward off the chill. A tad bit of silk was added to the yarn to accentuate the lovely drape and silkiness common to Gotland fiber. The blankets are finished with a rolled hemmed edge or a tassel fringe. Perfect for cuddling under for a nap on cool days. The blankets measure approximately 60 inches in length and 42 inches in width.

Wrap yourself in the warmth of our Gotland wool!

Kim collaborated with Judy of the Autumn Acorn, a knitwear designer just over the Vermont border in NH, to bring you a cozy hat for the winter months. Jagger’s yarn is featured in the Autumn Acorn’s new hat pattern, Norwegian Fir. This kit comes in a cute indigo dyed project bag!   You will get two skeins of yarn and a printed version of the knitting pattern. Choose between creamy white yarn, light grey, or dark charcoal grey. Gotland Yarn

A touch of merino wool is added to the Gotland wool to enhance the softness of the wool, ease the spinning process for the mill, and give a little resilience to the yarn.  It is spun in a 3 ply to give you lovely stitch definition to your projects. When knit and washed, Gotland wool develops a soft halo.

  • Gotland Lamb Yarn DK Weight

    Gotland Lamb Yarn

Our Gotland lamb yarn comes in all the shades of Gotland wool from pale silver to dark charcoal grey. The wool comes from our lamb flock and is from their first shearing. It’s perfect for vests, shawls, and that cute little cropped sweater you’ve always wanted to knit. 😉The mill blended just a tad of fine wool with the wool to help in processing. It’s spun to a comfortable DK weight, in a 3 ply. The 3 ply yarn produces excellent stitch definition for those venturing beyond a stockinet stitch. When knit Gotland has a lovely drape and shine. When you wash your knitted garment, Gotland wool develops a soft halo. The natural gray hue of Gotland wool gives this yarn a timeless and classic look, perfect for adding a touch of elegance to any outfit.  It would also be wonderful on your loom as well woven up into a wrap, blanket, or even pillow cover.

Our Gotland yarn works perfectly for Ramona’s Vest pattern, a collaboration with New England knitwear designer Annie Lupton. She designed a sweet cropped cabled vest pattern named, “Ramona”. The vest features braided cables up the front. It’s perfect for fall and winter layering! Just three skeins will knit the size small vest.  Visit Annie’s Ravelry page to purchase her pattern.
