Felting Workshop & Retreat

with Jo Hesse – feltmaker

This workshop is taught by Jo Hesse, accomplished internationally known felt maker and hosted by Kim Goodling at VT Grand View Farm. In this two day workshop students will create a round floor or meditation cushion decorated with a mandala pattern of the students own design. Students will learn:

  • 3D felt making using a resist
  • preparing pre-felts
  • utilizing pre-felts to create intricate colored inlays in felted fabric
  • stuffing and finishing the seamless cushion

Retreat Accommodations & Meals

We have options for those wanting to stay overnight for a full retreat experience and for those living locally who just want to come for the workshop only.

Shared Farmhouse Bedroom: Accommodations for these participants include a shared room and shared bath in our 19th century farmhouse at VT Grand View Farm. All but one dinner are included in the cost of the retreat. Meals will be prepared with locally sourced farm raised foods. (Please notify Kim of any dietary restrictions upon registering.)

Private Cottage: A private cottage is available just a five minute walk down the hill from the farm (limited availability). The cottage includes a queen bed, small kitchenette, and private bath. Guests who stay at the cottage will still be provided with meals at the farm. If you would like to stay at the private cottage with another member of your party who is also participating in the workshop, please contact Kim before booking to arrange.

Day Student Option

Day Student: Per YOUR request, we have increased our number of day students!! (NO accommodations and no meals included) This option is for day students who live locally and only want to take the workshop. Day students must plan to bring their own lunch each day and arrive at 9:00am and leave at 4:00pm on May 18 and 19th. Day students will also pay a material fee to Jo for any wool they use from her inventory.

Class Materials

A class materials of needed supplies list will be sent prior to the workshop.

Cancelation Policy

If a participant needs to cancel for any reason after making payment, their fee will only be refunded if their space can be filled by another person. Should Kim and Jo need to cancel the retreat due to lack of participants or the instructor is ill, all money will be refunded.

Accessibility

Please note that our farm is a hillside farm property with difficult terrain. There are uneven stone steps leading up to the front door. Our rooms and studio are not handicap accessible.
